On February 5th, we celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary which is the first big milestone (after surviving that first year). ;)
In five years we've managed a home and 2 beautiful children. Pretty awesome and we're abundantly grateful. I always tread lightly on the topic of marriage because what can I possibly say about it at the age of 33 and only 5 years into it but I'll stand on this: Yesterday afternoon I was running home after completing my Monday run for the afternoon and my mind wandered to the 2001 film, The Mexican.
Alex and I (as a couple) aren't 2 people struggling to get it together by any means but this movie quote has always made me smile because it's nothing if not true. ;)
"Look, when two people love each other - Totally, TRUTHfully, all the way love each other, the answer to that question is simple, especially in your case.:
When do you get to that point where enough is enough? Never... Never."
We've mentioned my little shop before on this blog but never in any considerable detail and that's been intentional because this is our family blog, not a way to shamelessly self promote.
BUT...sometimes life calls for a little shameless self promotion. ;)
I've been super busy over at our online store and if we've been slacking over here; that's why and I apologize. From blogging about products to creating products, photographing, editing, posting, etc.....you get the idea and hopefully you get that most of this stuff is accomplished on nap time and post kids' bedtimes. Such is the life of a parent, ya' know?.
Alex has been a HUGE help, as he always has been, and we've worked on this together with love and enthusiasm. We're approaching our 5 year wedding anniversary next month and though I know that I know that I know nothing at all about life, I do have this sneaky suspicion that at least some of our success thus far is owed to the fact that we can, and do, collaborate on many projects with love. Here's to great teams.
So anyway, long story short, thank you husband. A few pics of things we've been doing down below. And also, GO VISIT IHEARTYOUMORE! We have lots of soaps, candles and other bath goodies, all handcrafted. We are simply and wonderfully made. :-)
Sorry for the hiatus! So many things keeping us busy and more to come on that soon but for now let us photo bomb you with Street boy goodness!
A couple of these pictures are from the holiday times but most of these are from days of late!
Almost a full week into the new year and we've stayed pretty busy. Liam went back to school this week, I've been hard at work as well and Isaac decided somewhere over the holidays that full running was in order. As he barrels around the house (concrete floors btw), I am equal parts amazed and terrified.
Alex returned to work this week as well and we've really enjoyed having him home for the holidays (vacation). Tis bitter sweet and I suppose you could say there's a bit of the post holiday blues going on this week but it's nothing to get too down about. We've got a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks and plenty to do in the mean time. It'll be spring before you know it!!
This is it! The last of our Holidecor posts for 2015!! Oh what fun these always are for me ~ thank you for humoring me. ;)
Since this is our last NYE post (and our last post for the year), I tried to cram it with as much inspiration as I could. We do have one more freebie linked below so enjoy. Here's to a bright 2016! Go and make it count!!
Gold, silver, black, white...these tend to be the popular color schemes of NYE ~ You can keep it traditional OR go in a completely different direction! And the confetti push pop is something I've been obsessing about this year. I think ultimately I'm going to go the confetti wand route though (please see this post).
Kraft paper for every holiday this year, haha! This is cute and EASY ~ Have your party guests write their resolutions on the wall just for fun.
And never underestimate the simplicity of big ol block numbers (local craft store), some mod podge or glue and GLITTER.
Vintage clocks (if you can find these) are a nice decorative touch.....
Our first freebie with all these printables HERE! And some tinsel wrapped around a champagne flute is cost effective and super cute. ;)
The pics below are pretty straight forward ideas ~~ I think I plan to start the time capsule idea with my little family this year. ;)
We'll see you in 2016!
I wanted to take a break in between all the Holidecor posts to talk about this because it's been on my heart lately. As we wind this year down, I tend to do a lot of thinking and what I've most thought about is the state of us, frankly. This rock we all live on. And how we appear to be juggling the roles we've been given.
We'll get back to fun NYE prep tomorrow but today, please permit me to use our family space for a message from my own heart.
My wish for 2016 is
That as often as we can, we avoid the dark corners of our minds. Fear, resentment, bitterness and despair are all that reside there and you will surely never know joy or contentment if you continue to dwell in that house. Shut it down.
That we march – no, RACE - into life with blind optimism, love, acceptance and grace for ourselves and each other. We’re not always going to get this right on the first try, but by God, let’s never give up, ok? Quitting is for quitters, and that is just not my crowd.
This goes with the 2nd point: Compassion. Compassion for others. Let’s not kid ourselves - we cut ourselves a lot of slack but we don’t always do this for other people, do we? We want others to attain their enlightenment and to “mend their ways” while we give ourselves the grace to be works-in-progress indefinitely. So compassion. More of that, please. Everyone is doing the best they know how to and yep, everyone has room to improve. Grace for all those transitions, yes?
That we find our “brave.” Do new stuff. Do hard stuff. Be brave in your pursuits. Be brave in the love, compassion and acceptance you offer others. Be brave in the battle we are all entrenched in right now to make sure that reason and humanity are not drowned out by fear, hatred and willful ignorance. Be a soldier of peace.
We are citizens of the world who can stand up only one way – together.
Be brave for one another in dark times and we'll surely take that cup o' kindness yet....
We’re ready 2016. Let’s go.
Oh we're starting NYE and we're starting it pronto! We have but DAYS to get this going guys so it's now or never!
Let's not waste time and get it done, shall we?
Confetti wands and this downloadable print which may be a great touch for your sparkler hand-outs if you're throwing a NYE soiree! Download here!
A NYE game about the year past? That's SO fun!! So here's a downloadable for it.
And as to the second shot - I find an interesting stir-er is a fun addition to a champagne flute because it's EASY.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!! They say you love Christmas when you're young but then you REALLY love it once you become a parent and I'd have to agree. Christmas with littles is just like nothing else, man. ;)
We had a lovely morning, lovely Christmas strata and lovely time with family!! Season's greetings to ALL and we're looking forward to 2016!
I know it's Christmas Eve and who has time for last minute decorations, right?? Well...hopefully you'll find these super cute and very quick and easy, especially if you happen to already have many of these items in your house. They can add a little flair to the night plus we have one more freebie below!
Merry Christmas all ~~ Have a great holiday weekend!
Have beent old that bath salts or even some baking soda can be great "snow" substitutes and if you have a glass jar or vase and a some miniatures in your house then you can create a fast, easy winter scene which could be a fun little dinner table centerpiece!
"JOY" printables to frame and adorn the walls! FREE download here!
Take a cookie cutter, wrap in ribbon, instant fun ornament gift or something to decorate the tree with!
This one's cute. Some ribbon on the door, a bow (if you're good with making them, unlike me!) and some poster board cut in the shape of a gift tag. If you've got youngens in the house...this could be a fun extra flair to decorate the door with on Christmas Eve night and then have the tag say "Merry Christmas Smiths! Love, Santa!" :-) The kids would love waking up to that Christmas Day I'm sure ~~ Noting to self for a year or two from now with my own youngens.
Hope you enjoyed these! Next stop: NYE!!.
More freebies in this post!! I love free stuff and I love food....these two things are all I've really learned about myself after 30+ years. ;)
Anyhoo....let's not waste time, shall we?
This is cool and something I haven't seen before. A different kind of twist on a traditional holiday symbol (ye old pinecone).
The drawing on the left looks like something even I couldn't mess up. And the images on the right are our first freebie! Visit here to download the gift tag designs!
Cute, easy and the gift that keeps on giving! ;) Pipe cleaners and sticky googly eyes are a MacGyver Mom's greatest tools.
More fun with pinecones! I'd make it easier on myself though and skip the acryllic paint, opting for spray paint instead. And the vintage xmas signs (great for framed prints perhaps?) are free to download here!! Enjoy!
One of our holiday traditions is to haul the kiddos to The Driskill every year during the holidays for some music, food and general "fancy holiday" ambience. Pretty much since we first started doing this I've been trying (with zero success) to get a family photo in front of that beautiful tree and one day it'll happen. I just know it. ;)
In the mean time, I'll keep getting us all decent looking, hauling us downtown and toasting in the holidays with a little champagne every year! Few pics below!!
